- Set the Date
It sounds obvious I'm sure but the first thing you need to do is set a date for your wedding. This will help you plan everything else, from the venue to the vendors. Make sure to choose a date that gives you enough time to plan everything else.
- Create a Budget
Before you start planning anything and booking suppliers, it's important to set a budget. This will help you avoid overspending and ensure you have the funds to cover all the important aspects of your wedding. Make a list of all the things you need to spend money on, such as the venue, catering, and decorations, and allocate a budget for each one.
Don't forget the smaller items such as gifts (for bridesmaids & groomsmen), wedding insurance, RSVP postage, ring boxes etc.
- Choose the Venue
Once you have a date and budget in mind, it's time to start looking for a venue. Make a list of potential venues that fit your budget and style and schedule visits to each one. Don't forget to consider things like capacity, location, on site accommodation and catering options when making your final decision.
- Select your Suppliers
After you've chosen your venue, it's time to start selecting your suppliers. This includes photographers, videographers, caterers, florists, and more. Make a list of potential suppliers, check their portfolios and reviews, and schedule consultations with each one. As well as their websites, social media is a great place to review possible suppliers.
Don't forget to confirm availability for your wedding date.
5. Finalise your Guestlist
Start by putting together a list of all the people you'd like to come to your wedding. Then based on your budget and venue capacity, make an initial selection for day and evening attendance. Give yourself a couple of days before going back to the guestlist, reviewing again and making your final list.
6. Send Out Save-the-Dates and Invitations
Once you've finalised the guest list, it's time to send out save-the-dates and invitations. This will give your guests plenty of time to make travel arrangements and ensure they don't schedule any other events on your wedding day.
We recommend sending your save the dates out at least 12 months in advance and your invitations around 4-6 months before the big day.
7. Choose your Wedding Attire
Selecting your wedding attire is an exciting part of the wedding planning process. This includes not only your wedding dress or suit but also the attire for your bridesmaids and groomsmen. Most wedding dresses require 6-8 months to be made so make schedule appointments to try on different styles and make sure you have enough time for your dress to arrive and any alterations.
8. Finalise the Decorations
The decorations are an important part of creating the right atmosphere for your wedding. Whether you're going for a classic, elegant look or a more modern, eclectic vibe, make sure to finalise your decorations and confirm delivery times with your vendors.
9. Plan the Music and Entertainment
From the ceremony to the reception, music and entertainment are key to keeping your guests engaged and creating a fun atmosphere. Make a list of potential musicians, DJs, or other entertainers, and schedule auditions or consultations to find the right fit.
10. Create a Timeline
Creating a timeline for your wedding day is crucial to ensuring everything runs smoothly. Work with your suppliers to establish a schedule for the ceremony, reception, and any other events you have planned, such as the first dance or cake cutting.
11. Confirm the Details
Finally, in the weeks leading up to your wedding, make sure to confirm all the details with your suppliers, including delivery times, setup requirements, and any other special requests. This will help ensure everything goes according to plan on your big day.
We know planning a wedding can be a daunting task, but with the right checklist, you can make sure everything is in order before the big day arrives.
